depth

This is the concept of depth: Depth is the distance from the distance from the nearest to the furthest point of something or form the front to the back. The three ideas of depth are leading lines, repetition/perspective, and contrasting form. We had to get pictures from inside and outside. Some we involved people and others were simply cityscapes.

Leading lines are lines with an image that leads the eye to another point in the image. Anything with a definite line can be a leading line. Fences, bridges, or even a shoreline can lead the eye. Repetition is the action of repeating something that has already been said or written. And Perspective is a picture adjusted in such a way, esp. one appearing to enlarge or extend the actual space, or to give the effect of distance. Combining these two concepts gives you a picture that has space leading from close up of an object and then repeating the object to a further view. It goes from close up to far away with the same object that leads your eye. Contrasting form is the enhancement of the apparent brightness or clarity of a design provided by the juxtaposition of different colors or textures. I tried to capture all these concepts in my eight pictures.

  1. This is really excellent work, Zaina. The images are fantastic (!) and illustrate the concepts. Work on organizing them a bit, maybe by separating your descriptions into the specific ways to create depth. Work also on format of the text so that is looks cohesive (and not different sizes). Beautiful photographs!
